Community & Safety

Putting yourself out there requires trust.

Balancers is about meeting people you wouldn’t otherwise meet. That only works when everyone feels respected, comfortable and able to be themselves. So there are a few things we ask from everyone who joins us — and a few things you should expect from us in return.

01

Our Community Rules

What we ask from you.

Respect boundaries
Not every conversation will click, and that’s okay. If someone isn’t interested, says no, asks you to stop or wants some space, respect it and move on.
Don’t make people feel unsafe
Harassment, intimidation, aggressive behaviour, unwanted touching or persistent unwanted attention have no place at Balancers.
Everyone belongs
Discrimination or harassment based on someone’s identity, background, gender, sexuality, race, religion, disability or who they are is not welcome here.
Drink responsibly
Have fun, but know your limits. Being drunk is never an excuse for behaviour that makes someone else uncomfortable.
Respect the space
Follow instructions from Balancers hosts and venue staff. They’re there to help the night run smoothly and keep everyone comfortable.
Respect people’s privacy
Be thoughtful with photos, videos, personal information and messages. Don’t record, share or contact someone in a way that makes them uncomfortable.

The simple version?

Be kind. Respect boundaries. Read the room. And if someone asks you to stop, stop.

02

Your Safety

What you can expect from us.

We can’t promise that nothing uncomfortable will ever happen when bringing lots of different people together. We can promise that if something doesn’t feel right, we’ll take it seriously.

Our hosts are there for you
Our hosts aren’t just there to run games and make introductions. If someone makes you uncomfortable or something doesn’t feel right, speak to any of us.
You don’t have to wait
Something doesn’t need to become “serious enough” before you tell us. If it feels wrong, let us know. We’d rather hear about something early.
We’ll listen
We’ll take concerns seriously and handle them sensitively. You don’t need to confront the other person yourself.
We’ll protect your privacy
We’ll keep reports as private as reasonably possible and won’t unnecessarily identify the person who raised a concern.
We will act
Depending on what happened, we may speak to someone, involve venue security, remove them from an event, suspend them or permanently exclude them from Balancers. Serious situations may result in immediate action without a previous warning.
We look out for each other
If you see someone who looks uncomfortable or witness behaviour that doesn’t feel right, check in with them or tell a host.

Something happened?

Tell us.

Whether it happened to you or you witnessed something involving someone else, we want to know. Speak to a Balancers host during an event, or contact us privately afterwards.
